The Joy of Giving: Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

We have many great opportunities this holiday season to help feed families hungry in both body and spirit; to bring joy to children in the form of simple gifts, and to bring basic necessities for hygiene that are desperately needed by many living on the street. Visit our site for holiday volunteer opportunities at http://prm.volunteerhub.com by filtering for "special events."

  • If you are interested in serving as a group of six or more, we can reserve spots for your team. Once we select and reserve your event, each member of your team needs to create their own account in order to sign up for the event.
  • Volunteer Services schedules group opportunities 30 days in advance, so now is a great time to schedule for our Thanksgiving and Winter Wonderland events.
  • Please contact Jayna Watts for group scheduling at jwatts@phoenixrescuemission.org.
  • If you are under 18 years of age, you must complete a Youth Volunteer Authorization and Liability Release prior to serving and must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Visit prm.volunteerhub.com to create your account. Click the "Create Account" link in the top-right corner. For questions or support, please call Volunteer Services at 602-346-3363 or email us at volunteer@phoenixrescuemission.org.

Fill-A-Bag, Feed-A-Family

How does it work? Your neighbors commit to giving a small amount of food every two months, which will provide a steady supply of non-expired, nutritious food to serve those in need. We are off to a running start in Phoenix, Tempe, Buckeye, Mesa, and Fountain Hills, where a percentage of bags collected will go directly to Christ-centered food pantries in the areas of participating fellowships in this metro-wide program.  We are hoping to stir the body of Christ in unity to display the love of Jesus to our city.  If you are interested in volunteering or getting more information about Fill-A-Bag, Feed-A-Family, click here to see the info page or for more information contact Oscar Barajas at 602-346-3383 or at chammann@phoenixrescuemission.org.

Make-Up Artists

Do you LOVE applying makeup? Do you want to boost the self-esteem of women by teaching them best practices of application?  We are looking for a make-up artist (not necessary to be a professional make-up artist) to provide a few training sessions for our clients at the Changing Lives Center. As they move forward in their program and prepare to re-enter the workforce, a polished, professional appearance is a must.

Boutique Assistance

If shopping, organizing, and helping others is your thing, we have an opportunity for you! We need a few ladies to help with our client boutique at the Changing Lives Center where women can shop and trade necessities for themselves and their children. We need your assistance one to two days a week, for three to four hours each day.

Childcare Providers - Childcare Assistants

Most of the women that enter our Transformation Program at the Changing Lives Center are mothers, and have their children with them when they arrive on our campus. They are hoping to find safe, stable, and loving place for themselves and their children. Without the help of childcare volunteers our capacity is limited, as we simply cannot serve all the children and mothers that rely on our Childcare Center that serves babies and children up to five years of age. Will you help by taking one shift, 10-2pm, one day per week, every other week, or one day each month? A level-One Fingerprint card and TB test are required.

BRIDGE Teachers - Men

We have a wonderful opportunity to go into the jails and provide a class on transitioning back to the outside world for inmates. Because of a connection with one of our teachers, many men find their way to hope and transformation at the Community Solutions Center. We need men who can teach a set curriculum with a heart to reach these forgotten people looking to change their lives.

Mentors

Want to make a huge difference in someone’s life? Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Mentor Program is designed to provide clients with the opportunity to develop a healthy relationship with a mature, knowledgeable and encouraging Christian mentor. The goal of this program is to build relationships that foster trust and facilitate progress towards the successful transition from residential program to independent living, with a focus on Christian discipleship, building godly life-long relationships and connecting to a local church community. Mentors and mentees will have weekly contact to study and review the PRM New Start Workbook and other supplemental materials for an 8-12 month commitment. If interested, reach out to Melissa Sheller at msheller@phoenixrescuemission.org or 480-646-0595.

Teaching cooking fundamentals, principles of food and beverage, and kitchen essentials. Experience should include Serve-Safe Certification, hands-on food service experience, common kitchen terminology, and safety and sanitation. Monday-Friday 8am - 7pm, schedule can be flexible.

Donor Care Clerk

Do you have a few hours you can help us prepare mailings and do some filing? Your service is greatly needed at our Mission Support Center weekdays from 9am - 2pm. We will work around your schedule.

Donor Events Volunteers

Would you like to impact a large number of people in the Phoenix community? Assist our Donor Events Coordinator with various aspects of event planning and preparation as we share our mission and vision with the ministry partners and the community at large. You must be organized and have MS Word and Excel, written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and following and implementing directions skills. Preferable 9am to 1pm, Monday and Wednesday, but flexible.
