Fleet Feet Sports Scottsdale Summer Water Drive

Fleet Feet Sports Scottsdale hosts its 2nd annual water drive to raise hydration awareness and provide water to the homeless and homebound of Phoenix.

WHO: Fleet Feet Sports Scottsdale, OSR Physical Therapy, and Water for Our World to benefit Phoenix Rescue Mission.

WHERE: Fleet Feet Sports Scottsdale, 18261 N. Pima Road STE E-135, Scottsdale, AZ 85255

WHEN: Saturday July 25, 2015 from 6:30am-5pm

WHAT: This water drive is being held to increase awareness of the heat related deaths that occur in Maricopa County. Last July alone, there were 39 heat related deaths and the total number of Arizona deaths each summer hovers around 100. Excessive heat warnings were issued for 12 days last summer and those days typically correlate to the highest numbers of deaths. Although the statistics show that we are doing much better at providing information and water to the homeless, the homebound population is still at a very high risk. The public is invited to drop off a case of water to Fleet Feet Scottsdale during the hours noted and Phoenix Rescue Mission will distribute to people in need with the help of Water for Our World . There will be a family-friendly fun 5k run starting at 6:30am. Games, giveaways, free running analysis and more will follow the run. Related awareness information and hydration tips will be provided by Fleet Feet Sports.

INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES: Video, photo and interview opportunities with participants and event organizers will be available. If you are interested in attending or have any further questions please contact Jeremy Heath at 870-897-9266 or jeremy@fleetfeetscottsdale.com

What:              June 2015 Water Drive

When:             June 1-30, 2015

Where:            All Valley Papa Murphy’s Locations

Why:               To collect cases of water to support Phoenix Rescue Mission’s goal of hydrating the homeless

Join all Valley Papa Murphy’s Pizza locations in this important endeavor to hydrate the homeless population of Phoenix. Drop off a case of water between June 1- June 30 to any Valley Papa Murphy’s Pizza location and receive $5 off a Family Size Pizza. Limit one discount per person during the month of June, 2015.

“Water is a minimum essential,” said Phoenix Franchise Owner Ed Holmes, “When we were apprised of the great need our city’s homeless population has for this resource, we knew we had to step up. We have over 40 locations Valley-wide set up as collection spots and we’re hoping others will be compelled to act for this worthy cause.”

The bottled water collected at Phoenix Metro Papa Murphy’s Pizza locations will support the Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Code Red summer heat relief for the homeless. This is the third-year of the life-saving campaign, which last year distributed more than 362,000 bottles of water on the streets.  This year’s goal is to collect 500,000 bottles of water. Papa Murphy’s Pizza is proud to be part of this effort.

Costco Business Center Aids in Code Red Heat Relief by Allowing Bulk Purchase of Water

Costco’s Business Center location at 33rd Avenue and Indian School is helping aid in Code Red Summer Heat Relief by offering to sell pallets of water at a bulk discount.

This deal is good for anyone, whether you are a Costco member or not! Read "What to Do" below to see how this works.

How Much?

Each case of Kirkland Signature Water contains 40 of the 16.9 oz bottles and there are 48 cases per pallet or 1920 bottles of water. (Stock #782796) The cost for one pallet of water is $162.72 (or $00.085 per bottle). Because the Costco Business Center is so close to our center, our delivery team has agreed to take care of picking up the pallets to save the cost of delivery!

You also have the option to purchase a “truckload.” A truckload (20 pallets of the same water, 38,400 bottles) is priced at $3,120.00 or $00.08125 per bottle!

What to Do

The only way to get in on this deal is by contacting Shawn Torre, an associate at the Costco Business Center on 33rd Avenue and Indian School Road, at (480)392-2123 x231. He will make arrangements and make sure your name is on the pallet so that we can receipt you as the donor for your contribution properly. This Costco Business Center is the only location making this offer to aid to our Code Red efforts. And because the Mission has a Costco membership, this Costco Business Center is waiving the necessity of having your own Costco Membership so that anyone can help!

If you can donate water in this way, thank you! We are working hard to protect and give hope to those who are suffering on the streets - and you are making that possible!

Want to See It in Action?

If you would like to see your water in action, try taking a ride on the Hope Coach! Volunteers are welcome to ride onto the streets, help us find those who are in need, give them what they need, and encourage them to get back on their feet.

“Smiles Beyond the Bars” Suprises 15 Formerly Incarcerated Women with Free Dental Services

Read the story on CBS 5 News here.

WHAT: Phoenix Rescue Mission and Smiles Beyond the Bars partner to provide dental services for women in recovery. The women chosen for the program have no idea they were already selected.

WHY: Despair, loneliness and hopelessness never let up for those who call the streets their home. But for women and children in our community who find themselves without a safety net, life on the streets can be especially cruel. It’s a startling fact that nearly half of the homeless population in Maricopa County are women and children.

The Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Changing Lives Center is the only faith-based recovery program in the region offering long-term, comprehensive services to help single women and mothers with children rebuild their lives. In addition to the services the Center provides, the nonprofit also works in partnership with programs like Smiles Beyond the Bars to provide further services that help instill hope in these women who seek a better life for themselves and their children. As Changing Lives Center clients begin the job search phase of the program, many are embarrassed by the condition of their teeth and feel that it is a barrier to ending their homelessness.

WHERE: Phoenix Rescue Mission Changing Lives Center, 338 North 15th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ

WHEN: Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Women in recovery will gather in the Changing Lives Center chapel to receive news that they were selected for the Smiles Beyond Bars dental services program. They are under the impression that they are just interviewing for the program, but in reality, they’ve already been selected.
  • Nearly 50 other women, staff members, volunteers and family members will be in attendance.
  • The women selected for the program may be available for interviews.
  • Phoenix Rescue Mission employees/spokespersons will be on hand to speak about the need for rehabilitation programs like the Changing Lives Center.
  • A Smiles Beyond the Bars spokesperson will be on hand to speak about their dental services program.

Phoenix Rescue Mission provides Christ-centered, life-transforming solutions to persons facing hunger and homelessness. The non-profit Mission, which has been operating since 1952, is asking the public for support of its many programs designed to save lives, including Hope Coach Street Outreach, Homeless Emergency Services, Men’s Addiction Recovery Program and the new Changing Lives Center for Women and Children.
